Honda will be showcasing its range of advanced environmental production vehicles, including the world’s first production fuel cell car, the FCX Clarity, at EcoVelocity.
Honda FCX Clarity
Honda has no plans for the commercial introduction of FCX Clarity in the UK. But it will happen, and by demonstrating the viability of the technology through test drives and trials, Honda hopes to encourage the development of hydrogen as a fuel in Europe.
The FCX Clarity is the pinnacle of Honda’s research into clean alternative energy vehicles. It showcases over 20 years of ground-breaking research and innovation that could revolutionise car technology and design.
How it works:
A fuel cell vehicle has a hydrogen tank instead of a petrol tank. In the fuel cell, hydrogen is combined with oxygen from the air to generate electricity. The fuel cell is like a tiny electric power station, and generates its own electricity onboard rather than through a plug-in system.
Because the electricity required to power the car’s motor is generated onboard using hydrogen and oxygen, no CO2 or other pollutants are emitted.
It is the ultimate in clean performance, its only emission is the water produced as a by-product of electricity generation.
- The FCX Clarity is the world’s first production fuel cell car
- Zero harmful emissions? The Clarity’s only exhaust emission is water vapour
- The FCX Clarity is an electric car that generates its electricity on-board using compressed hydrogen as an energy carrier
- This is the car’s first public showing in the UK
Honda will also be showcasing its trio of environmentally-friendly hybrid cars – the Insight, CR-Z and Jazz Hybrid – at EcoVelocity. Visitors will get the chance to drive these cars around a specially-constructed track in the shadow of the capital city’s famous landmark and learn all about the benefits of the technology under the skin.
