Ford’s star at EcoVelocity 2011 will be the all-new Focus, which boasted a 67mpg model across its range with Auto Start Stop from launch in March. By March 2012 the Ford Focus range will include an ECOnetic version capable of 80mpg, meaning CO2 emissions of under 95g/km. Ford ECOnetic technologies include a UK-produced 1.6 diesel engine optimised for maximum fuel efficiency with new injection system and turbocharger, enhanced charge air cooling, friction reduction features and grille shutters which open and close to use least fuel.
EcoVelocity takes place during Ford Britain’s centenary year following the opening of the company’s first UK sales office in London in 1911. By the end of the same year car production had started at Trafford Park, Manchester, where a Ford Model T rolled off the line in the October. Then the first world car, the all-new Ford Focus continues Ford’s popularity round the world by going on sale in 120 countries. Since the design of the Model T, sustainable production has been central to Ford’s values. Wooden packing cases used by suppliers to deliver Model T components were dismantled and used for its floor. Today the same 1.6 TDCi diesel engine in the Focus as is being developed to reach 80mpg is assembled in Ford Dagenham’s wind-powered assembly plant.
