2000 Miles For Less Than A Tank Of Petrol
2000 miles for less than a tank of petrol
Entrepreneur and founder of Zero Carbon World, Kevin Sharpe, is celebrating his successful return to the UK following a 2000 mile electric car extravaganza around Europe, proving that long-distance trips are no problem in an electric vehicle. The whole trip cost approximately £50 in electricity, less than most people pay to fill up their car at the petrol station.
"The whole trip was extremely simple and easy," said Kevin. "I would encourage everyone to get out and take a road trip in an electric vehicle."
Kevin set up Zero Carbon World to help people make similar trips within the UK. Zero Carbon World donates electric vehicle Charging Stations to the hotel and leisure industry. To date they have donated 112 Charging Stations. While in Switzerland, Kevin joined up with 30 other Tesla Roadster owners from all over Europe to take part in the first ever Tesla Invasion, an all-electric road trip that traveled en masse from Zurich to the Geneva Motor Show. With the budget announcing that fuel duty is still set to increase, plug-in cars are becoming more and more desirable. Range anxiety is often stated as one of the reasons people are afraid to make the jump to all-electric, but as Kevin proved this really isn't an issue even on long trips.
"This really was a landmark trip for the EV industry," Kevin said. "I'm hoping that this trip will raise awareness of electric vehicles and encourage more people to adopt the technology. "As more people do these 'impossible trips' I hope it shows that an electric car is suitable for nearly everyone. If you commute to work and run errands, they're perfect. And I've proved you can even take longer road trips using Charging Stations such as the ones we donate."
Photo opportunity: At the London Heathrow Marriott with Renault 10th April. Kevin Sharpe will be there with his Tesla Roadster plus a chance to see other electric vehicles from the Renault ZE range.
